Run for Wounded Warriors Raises Over $12,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project

(Fairfax, Virginia- October 2009) On a cold, drizzly and early October morning, over 165 runners and walkers, plus several enthusiastic volunteers and onlookers, combined to make the Run for Wounded Warriors at Burke Lake Park a great success. Halfaker and Associates, LLC, J. M. Waller Associates, Inc. and tripol-E hosted the third annual Run for Wounded Warriors on October 18, 2009 in support of the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). Over 165 enthusiastic patriots completed the 4.7 mile run around Burke Lake in support of our Nation’s heroes returning home to their families from the current conflicts.
In honor of our Nation’s wounded warriors, the three service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses joined together to cover all costs associated with the run and are proud to donate over $12,000.00 to help ensure those who have borne the weight of battle return home to a grateful Nation.
The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization with the unique goal of ensuring that today’s newest veterans are the most successful, well-adjusted generation of veterans in our Nation’s history. The WWP was founded on the principle of warriors helping warriors and offers various outstanding service programs. The WWP’s signature service programs include peer mentoring, adaptive sporting events, and Project Odyssey—a potentially life-changing program that engages groups of veterans with combat stress and post-traumatic stress disorder in outdoor adventure activities that foster coping skills and provide support in the recovery process.
