Halfaker and Associates’ CEO Appointed to Advisory Committee on the Readjustment of Veterans
Washington DC – The Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Eric K. Shinseki, recently appointed Dawn Halfaker to serve on the Advisory Committee on the Readjustment of Veterans. Halfaker, a disabled combat Veteran, CEO and Founder of Halfaker and Associates, Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Wounded Warrior Project, and member of the Advisory Committee to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs on OIF/OEF Veterans and Families, will use her insight and leadership to help improve services for Veterans’ post-war readjustment to civilian life.
The 12 member committee is set to meet, at a minimum, biannually to discuss policies, organizational structures, and the provision and coordination of services relative to Veterans’ post-war readjustment to civilian life with particular emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder, alcoholism, other substance abuse, post-war employment and family adjustment. The committee will submit its findings to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an annual report.
The committee is comprised of dedicated citizens with a perspective close to the Veteran or with a significant amount of knowledge about Veterans’ programs. Halfaker’s appointment will provide the committee with the unique perspective of an individual who has weathered the storm of combat, persevered through the rigors of readjustment to civilian life while undergoing intensive treatment for serious wounds received in combat, and has accomplished significant civic and professional achievement in the wake of monumental personal loss. Additionally, Halfaker will bring the view of the Veteran as well as the view of an employer and supporter of Veterans to the committee.
Halfaker is a proud and active advocate for our Nation’s Veterans and hopes the Advisory Committee on the Readjustment of Veterans can promote effective change in the services provided for our Nation’s heroes.
