 “Arm Missing, Heart Intact”

Captain (Retired) Dawn Halfaker, a native to the San Diego area, is featured in an article by Tom Shanahan for the voiceofsandiego.org.  This news organization is a nonprofit, independent and insightful online newspaper focused on issues impacting the San Diego region.

The article explores Dawn's experience playing basketball in High School and at West Point and how athletics built the kind of character that developed a military leader and assisted her rehabilitation and transition after her injury. "Athletics is a huge piece of it," Halfaker said. "I've had to work hard in therapy, and I've learned to depend on others. You gain relationships from teamwork, and you have the will to achieve victory. Athletics really played into my ability to continue and muster through everything."

Halfaker and Associates, LLC was developed from this drive and determination and the importance for her to remain involved in military issues and have a role in the war on terrorism. Dawn has carried the values she gained from being an athlete and military officer in to how she lives her life and leads her company.
