Across the nation, businesses both large and small are stepping up to recruit, hire and retain veterans. Many employers recognize it’s the right thing to do. But there are other important reasons to employ returning service members – including those who return with disabilities and combat-related injuries.
Dawn Halfaker, President and CEO of Halfaker and Associates, LLC, hires disabled veterans for their proven leadership skills, teamwork experience and accelerated learning curve.
"These people are resilient," she says. "They've been through challenging situations, and because they've had to push themselves, they are capable of overcoming hardships and adapting to new situations. These are the extraordinary kinds of people I want in my organization."
