Alexandria, VA – Halfaker and Associates’ CEO, Dawn Halfaker, participated as a distinguished guest at the Women in Defense National Fall Conference on September 29, 2009 at The Westin in Alexandria, VA. This year’s conference was titled, "Innovation, Inspiration, Imagination: Incentives for the Future” and featured prominent business women in industry, government, and the media. The conference was open to all representatives from industry, military, government, and academia, as well as any professionals seeking success in defense careers. The interactive conference format allowed participants to engage in conversations with numerous successful distinguished guests, gain a deeper understanding of how national security issues effect businesses, network in an inclusive environment and make professional business contacts.

Halfaker shared her unique perspective with conference attendees during a fireside chat session as both a successful small business owner and a disabled veteran. Halfaker discussed how her experiences during her recovery from combat injuries helped to shape her vision and inspiration for Halfaker and Associates and how her experiences as a leader in business are helping her to shape the innovative procedures she uses to keep her company transformative in the vastly changing defense contracting market. In addition, Halfaker serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Wounded Warrior Project and as a steering committee member for the community service oriented veterans’ organization, The Mission Continues. Halfaker shared how these organizations assist veterans and can strengthen defense contracting companies by placing quality employees in rewarding positions.

Other keynote speakers included the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Strategy, Plans, and Forces, Honorable Kathleen Hicks and Senator Kay Hagen from North Carolina. Senator Hagen shared her story of inspiration and accomplishment, her vision for the Nation, and provided insight on how to become part of America’s extraordinary journey of rediscovery. Halfaker’s discussion as well as the numerous other compelling guest speakers inspired and energized the conference attendees through their shared stories of innovation and imagination.
