Chestertown, MD – For the seventh consecutive year, Halfaker and Associates’ Mike King rode 100km in support of the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society’s annual Chesapeake Challenge on May 22nd, 2010. This year, Mike raised $300 and was one of 600 cyclists and volunteers who participated in this year’s event to help end the debilitating disease.

After a hearty breakfast on Saturday morning, Mike and his teammates started out on their 100km journey. Throughout the day, they enjoyed the numerous break stations every 8-12 miles that were festively operated by the supportive volunteers. They were served lunch by pirates and entertained by mascots from Critters for a Cause at one of the break stations. Mike continues to participate in the event year after year because he believes in the cause and finds the MS ride a great outlet to challenge himself physically and philanthropically.

Mike has worked with Halfaker and Associates since March 2008 and currently oversees daily company operations, manages the executive staff, and leads the execution of strategic initiatives across the company as the Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Halfaker and Associates, Mike served with the Critical Infrastructure Protection group of Lockheed Martin Transportation and Security Solutions. He has a variety of experience in systems engineering, COTS integration, physical security, program management, and capture management.

The National MS Society is a collective of passionate individuals who strive to move together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis. The Society helps people affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. They advocate for those living with MS to move legislation forward in areas that most affect the 400,000 Americans impacted by the disease, including funding for research, health insurance, long term care and disability rights.
