Halfaker and Associates’ CBRNE/EM Coordinator, Robert Cohen, Appointed to the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Hospital/Healthcare Committee
Washington, DC - Halfaker and Associates’ (Halfaker) Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and High-Yield Explosive/Emergency Management (CBRNE/EM) Coordinator, Robert Cohen, was selected to be a part of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), Hospital/Healthcare Committee. Cohen’s work will be paramount as emergencies, disasters and catastrophes affect hospital and healthcare facilities around the world.
The IAEM, which has members in 58 countries, is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to promoting the goals of saving lives and protecting property during emergencies and disasters. It is readily known as a premier international organization of emergency management professionals. The newly created IAEM Hospital/Healthcare Committee’s mission is to represent the emergency management issues specific to hospitals and health care facilities. The committee provides emergency managers who work in the hospital and healthcare setting a forum to share their specific issues and concerns and voices their issues on a national and international stage to ensure their needs are being addressed by government and industry officials. They are also working to bring the professionalism and community of the IAEM organization to the hospital and healthcare emergency management setting.
The group currently has approximately 169 members and plans to create a set of bylaws, elect regional representatives, and develop a work plan in the immediate future. Additionally, within a few months, the group intends on performing the first Hospital/Healthcare Emergency Manager’s Salary Survey. The committee elected Andrew D. McGuire, BS, EMT-P, Director of Emergency Management at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Connecticut as the committee’s Chairperson. The Vice-Chair is Scot Phelps, JD, MPH, Paramedic, CEM/CBCP/MEP, Associate Professor of Emergency Management at the School of Health & Human Services at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut.
Halfaker prides itself in offering subject matter experts in emergency management who provide innovative and cost effective solutions. It encourages and rewards its employees for participating in activities within their areas of expertise to help better their communities. Cohen is currently assigned to Navy Region Midwest at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois.
