Halfaker and Associates Supports the Center for Citizen Leadership

The vision of the Center for Citizen Leadership is to develop, enable, and celebrate Citizen-Leaders. They believe that the best way to ensure the vitality of American democracy is to develop the next generation of Citizen-Leaders through intensive service work and leadership opportunities.

Their belief in citizens draws on the past. American citizenship is grounded in historic beliefs: the spiritual commitment to human dignity; the Greek belief in democracy; the Roman conception of the rule of law; and the Enlightenment notion of the natural rights of men and women. They believe that in our nation’s history, these strands have woven together to form enduring principles: that our guaranteed rights come with obligations and responsibilities; that the individual and community both reach their fullest potential when one works to improve the other; and that popular participation safeguards democracy. They plan to breathe new life into these principles by connecting citizenship with the challenges of leadership.

They believe that our best leadership exercises the virtues of wisdom, courage, and compassion and that these virtues can be developed through training. They believe that courage can be trained by confronting fear and overcoming challenges. They believe that wisdom is rooted in humility and is most powerfully developed when we recognize everyone as a potential teacher. They believe that compassion grows through service and reflection. These virtues serve as the foundation of their organization and the basis of their service.

With the lessons of history as their guide and the virtues as their compass, they engage citizens in service work to others and in national service to the country. As they develop each individual to their highest potential, so they will enable our communities to meet their promise.
