Description: 

We are seeking an Associate-level Graphic and Web Designer to join our talented, energetic team providing support services to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Veteran Small Business Conference. The Graphic and Web Designer will provide all graphical elements and web design to support an annual 6,000 person event designed to connect Veterans, small businesses, large contractors and government decision makers.  The Graphic and Web Designer should be capable of proposing and executing cutting edge web and design elements to enhance marketing efforts and attendee engagement for the conference.  The Graphic and Web Designer will utilize their skills in HTML, CSS, or PHP design to revolutionize the conference website and set the standard for quality engagement and information communication to stakeholders.  They will employ the use of the Adobe Creative Suite to provide cutting-edge graphics for products such as marketing flyers, online and print advertisements, conference materials and other documents.

Responsibilities:

  • Propose and create web and print design elements to support a multiple stakeholder event
  • Create designs, concepts, and sample layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and esthetic design concepts
  • Develop graphic designs that effectively communicate the ideas being promoted by the client, team, and event
  • Support the initial planning of web pages and graphic materials, coordinate with supervisors, peers and clients to discuss ideas for organization of information, layout, types of or images, color themes, and other matters concerning overall design concept
  • Develop and maintain wire frames, graphical design, HTML/CSS layout for existing and new web applications
  • Utilize the Adobe Creative Suite to generate innovative designs and concepts for increasing awareness about the conference and connecting with stakeholders
Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
  • Certification and or proficiency in:
    • HTML and CSS design
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe Illustrator
    • Adobe InDesign
    • Drupal (configuration to display designs) experience preferred
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of drawings, websites, print materials
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform via written, oral, and visual media
  • Communicating effectively as appropriate for the needs of the audience with oral and written communication, including writing and editing documents for grammar, composition, style, tone, layout and visual presentation for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to focus on the big picture when editing designs and working with management and clients for feedback
  • Demonstrates originality through coming up with a number of unusual or clever ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with team members, clients and stakeholders, and maintaining them over time
  • Pay attention to detail, being careful and thorough in completing work tasks
  • Take initiative, work in a fast-paced environment, and be responsive to changing priorities while still meeting deadlines
