A Promising Future: Halfaker’s CEO recognized as one of Fortune’s 2011 Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs
Washington, DC—Selected from over 130 applicants, Halfaker and Associates’ CEO, Dawn Halfaker, was recently honored as one of ten 2011 Fortune Most Powerful Entrepreneurs. Dawn was recognized amongst extraordinary women whose startups generated $1 million to $25 million in annual revenue last year—and appear poised to become large and global business leaders. Looking to expand on her company’s nationally recognized success, Dawn plans to leverage her company’s strong culture of service to earn $50 million in revenue by 2016.
Just in its second year, the program’s honorees have already seen great success. 2009 winner, Lynn Jurich has since grown her company, SunRun, to include over 11,000 customers, and 2010 awardee Dina Kiplan has increased her website’s audience base dramatically. Her website, Blip.tv, now attracts more than 300 million video views each month, an explosive increase from 100 million six months ago.
The Most Powerful Women Entrepreneur Program is part of Fortune Magazine’s Most Powerful Women (MPW) Program that ranks the 50 most prominent women leaders in business, philanthropy, government, education, and the arts. According to Fortune Magazine, the list has become a community, with live events and programs that enable the MPW to use their power wisely and globally.
According to Dawn, “It is a huge honor to be recognized by Fortune among the top 10 of up and coming women entrepreneurs in America. I hope to use this prestigious network to continue to build my company and advocate for fellow small business owners and in particular woman and veteran small businesses.”
In addition to spending long hours building and growing her company, Dawn consistently devotes her time and energy to mentoring entrepreneurs by providing one-on-one mentoring sessions, speaking at events to promote increased support for small businesses and to provide tips for building a successful company. She also speaks regularly to transitioning service members, veterans and wounded warriors who are considering becoming entrepreneurs. Also, Dawn is an advisor to several government agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, on how best to engage small businesses within the government contracting industry.
