Committed to Supporting our Nation’s Heroes: 5th Annual Run Around the Lake
Fairfax Station, VA—On Sunday October 2, 2011, over 400 participants gathered at Burke Lake Park for the 5th Annual Run Around the Lake to raise money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). Although the morning resulted in unseasonably cold and wet weather, participants and volunteers alike made this year’s event a great success. Racers took no time completing the 4.7 miles course, with volunteers and spectators cheering as they crossed the finish line.
The WWP continues to hold a strong place in our company’s commitment to our community and supporting service members and Veterans. Through the generosity and kindness of participants, the race raised $28,250 for the WWP to help fulfill its mission to honor and empower injured service men and women. Rich Stieglitz, Executive Vice President for Physical Health and Wellness, and Casey O’Donnell, Coordinator for Physical Health and Wellness, gratefully accepted the check on behalf of the WWP.
WWP is a non-profit organization with the unique goal of ensuring today’s newest veterans are the most successful, well-adjusted generation of veterans in our Nation’s history. WWP was founded on the principle of warriors helping warriors, and offers various outstanding service programs that are uniquely structured to nurture Wounded Warriors’ minds and bodies and encourage economic empowerment and engagement.
CEO of Halfaker and Associates, Dawn Halfaker, is extremely proud of this year’s outpouring of support, “This annual event continues to generate enthusiasm in our community to support our Nation’s Wounded Warriors and I am so thankful for the outpouring of support we received this year. Our Nation’s heroes continue to need our support and our community generously responds each year.”
Special thanks go out to all of the participants and volunteers who joined us this year in support of the WWP at Burke Lake Park. Thanks to your time and generosity those who have borne the weight of battle are able to gain support through the Wounded Warrior Project and lead successful lives. This year’s Run Around the Lake was the largest race yet and we are preparing for an even bigger event next year! We look forward to seeing you at the starting line for next year’s race. Save the date for October 6, 2012!
